Couple enjoying Shenandoah National Park in the Fall

Engagement Photography

You're engaged — congratulations! This season of your relationship is fleeting and beautiful. Let's make sure you have something to hold onto.

What an engagement session with me is actually like

Not awkward. That’s the most important thing. A lot of couples come into engagement sessions a little nervous — they’ve never had professional photos taken, they don’t know how to pose, they don’t want to look stiff.

Here’s the thing: nobody looks stiff when they’re laughing. So we do things that make you laugh. We explore. We walk. We find interesting light, you stand in it, you look at each other like you’re both thinking “can you believe this is our life?” — that’s the photo.

Less directing, more observing. The best images come from the in-between moments — when you’re looking at a view together, or when one of you says something that makes the other one crack up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an engagement session if we're eloping? +

You don't need one, but I highly recommend it. Engagement sessions help you get comfortable in front of my camera before your wedding day — so when it actually matters, you're not thinking about where to put your hands. You're just being yourselves.

Where do you do engagement sessions? +

Anywhere that feels like you. Shenandoah, the Blue Ridge, a park near your home, your favorite city neighborhood, a vineyard, the woods behind your house. I love location-scouting with couples to find something that actually reflects who they are.

How long is an engagement session? +

Most engagement sessions run 60-90 minutes. That's usually plenty of time to get comfortable, try a few different spots, and get some really beautiful images without it feeling like an endurance event.

When should we do our engagement session? +

Ideally a few months before your wedding or elopement, so you have time to get comfortable before the big day. That said, engagement sessions are meaningful any time — even years into your relationship.
